Ann Arbor participating in international event

Have you ever taken a look at a parking space and thought, "Wow, what else could we do with that space?"  Well, many people from across the world have thought that, and then gone on to show what can be done within one parking space!

On September 15th, downtown will have its own example as the City of Ann Arbor, the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority, and SmithGroupJJR are coming together to participate in PARK(ing) Day 2017!  This one-day initiative is part of an effort to foster collaborations among artists, community members, activists, designers and students to explore alternative uses for street space around the world.  Here in Ann Arbor, two metered spaces in the 200 block of South Main (near Fjallraven and Urban Jewelers) will feature examples designed and built by employees of SmithGroupJJR (a 2017 Commuter Challenge winner).  Come check it out, and get a different perspective on what can be done within the space taken by a car!

Links to other examples from other cities, as well as the City of Ann Arbor's announcement, are contained below.
