Park Downtown or Take the Bus? Here’s How to Decide.

If you regularly park in downtown Ann Arbor but are open to other options, this blog post is for you. Ask yourself these questions to figure out if you should drive and park downtown today or take the bus:
1. Do you live 3 or less miles from work? If you live 3 or less miles from work, you're in the busing sweet spot. This is the average distance of most downtown bus commuters. At 3 miles, chances are you can walk to a bus stop and get the bus downtown faster than you can get in your car and find a parking space downtown.
2. Do you value a quick commute or getting work done on your way to work? If you want the fastest possible commute, parking downtown may be the best option. But if you'd like to have some time to check your emails, read an article or make some phone calls, consider taking the bus instead. That way, you can be productive even before you get to work.
3. Do you pay for parking? Does that make you sad? If you are getting tired of paying for parking downtown, you might want to consider parking at a Park & Ride lot and taking the bus to work. Parking at any Park & Ride lot is completely free.
4. Do you have a go!pass? Does your employer provide you with a go!pass? These are the bus passes that allow you to get unlimited rides on all AAATA fixed route buses. If so, riding the bus is as easy as hopping on and swiping your card. And it's free to you. Kind of hard to beat free. Don't have a go!pass? Let us know how we can help.
