Walk Basics
Safety on the Road
Luckily Downtown Ann Arbor lends itself well to walking. Especially in good weather, you can walk miles safely by sidewalk. So lock up the car, get rid of the gym membership and get some activity on your daily commute!
A couple general hints:
- Be Visible. Wear bright color clothes so you’re sure to be seen
- Wait your turn and make sure drivers see you! Legally you should wait for the walk sign when crossing the street. Make eye contact with drivers. With cell phones and one-way streets, it’s easy for drivers to miss you. Yes, they may be in the wrong, but it’s better to be sure it’s safe to cross the street.
