Anne O’Neille works at a law firm in downtown Ann Arbor and arrives to work on time every day now that she rides the bus to work with her brand new go!pass. She catches the 8:20am bus everyday from Arbor Village and says the commute by bus takes the same time as the commute by car, but now she doesn’t have to spend time looking for a parking place in the downtown parking garage – the bus picks her up right in front of her home and takes her directly to work on Liberty Street. Anne is a life-long Ann Arbor resident with a son who attends school in San Francisco and she loves visiting him because they can see the whole city without a car. She says there are many reasons she decided to start riding the bus to work, but top among them is the benefit to the environment. “It would be great if more people rode the bus,” she says. “It’s a great way to improve the environment.” She was surprised at how clean the busses were inside, and says the bus drivers are friendly. In fact, the bus drivers have learned her route so she doesn’t even have to pull the chord anymore. Her route takes her through beautiful areas around east Ann Arbor, down Geddes Road, and past the Arboretum. “It’s a beautiful drive, and I like to veg out, talk with neighbors, or just stare out the window, and not worry about the stress of driving.” She says many of her neighbors take the bus, and she has been able to get to know them through their daily commute together.
