Bikes on the Bus
Bike the Ride
For your convenience, all AATA buses are equipped with bike racks in order to allow you to combine biking and busing to work. Now you can ride to work by bike and ride home by bus if there is a change in your schedule, your workload or the weather. Or you can ride your bike for part of your commute and bus the rest. Getting to work has never been so easy!
The racks are safe, convenient, and easy to use. Here’s how they work:
1. Wait at an AATA bus stop with your bike. Remember to take any loose items off your bike.
2. When the bus comes to a complete stop simply walk your bike to the front of the vehicle, remaining on the curb side of the street.3. Lift the front top latch on the rack (it also helps to push the rack towards the bus while squeezing the latch). Pull the rack toward you.
4. Place the front tire of your bike in the position marked "front tire" (towards the passenger entrance side of the bus) and slip your rear tire into the back slot. If there is already a bike on the rack, you will need to put your bike in with the front tire towards the driver's side of the bus.
5. Lift the spring loaded brace over the front tire and you are done.
6. Board the bus! When you reach your destination, exit at the front of the bus and inform the driver that you’re removing your bike. Remove the front brace, take your bike off and put the rack back (if there are no other bikes on it).
It’s that simple. And, don’t worry, AATA bus drivers are very helpful and willing to assist you if you have problems. You can also swing by the Blake Transit Center and try out the bike rack on a parked bus.
