If you commute to work in downtown Ann Arbor and need safe, convenient bike parking, consider renting a bike locker.
Who Uses Downtown Bike Lockers?
The getDowntown Locker Rental Program provides bicycle commuters with the opportunity to rent bicycle lockers at various locations throughout the downtown. The bicycle lockers provided by the program are for commuting purposes only, not for bicycle storage. In order to rent a bicycle locker from the getDowntown program, you must be employed in the downtown Ann Arbor area. Bike locker renters include architects, IT professionals, City employees and more.
How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Bike Locker?
Bike Lockers are rented for year-long terms, starting on April 1 and ending on March 31. The fee for renting is $60 for one year. If you begin your rental after April, your annual rental fee is pro-rated by month. This means your fee will be reduced by $5 for each month into the term, but month-to-month rental is not available. For example, if you rent from June – March, your rental charge will be $50.

What is the getDowntown Program’s Wait List Policy?
The bicycle locker wait list is first come, first served. Individuals on the wait list are prioritized by the order that requests arrive, and are categorized by the location requested. When a locker becomes available, the person on the top of the wait list for that location has preference and will be notified by email, then phone. If the person does not respond in 5 business days, they are removed from the list and the person next on the wait list for that location is contacted.
I’m a Downtown Resident of Ann Arbor. Can I Rent a Bike Locker?
No, downtown residents cannot rent bike lockers. The bicycle lockers provided by the program are for commuting purposes only, not for bicycle storage. In order to rent a bicycle locker from the getDowntown program, you must be employed in the downtown Ann Arbor area.
How Can I Request a Bike Locker If I’m a Downtown Resident?

How Long Is a Bike Locker Rental?
Bike Lockers are rented for one-year periods, from April 1 to March 31. The rental fee for a one-year rental is $60.

Why Should I Rent a Bike Locker? What Are the Benefits to Renting a Bike Locker?
Renting a bike locker is an inexpensive way to ensure that your bike is safe and secure while you are at work. A bike locker keeps your bike out of the elements through all the seasons, so you don’t have to worry about accumulated rain, snow, or leaves when you leave work at the end of the day.
Information For Renters
How Do I Clean My Bike Locker?
To clean your locker, use a broom and sweep out debris, and wipe any accumulated dirt with a wet cloth. Please avoid any harsh chemical cleaners.
The getDowntown Program offers complimentary Spring and Fall Cleaning to renters. The getDowntown Program will contact renters in advance to see if they would like their lockers to be cleaned out. Cleanings will occur after 4pm on a scheduled date.
What If There Is a Problem With a Bike Locker?
It is the renter’s responsibility to report any maintenance issues, including malfunctioning locks or damage to the locker, to the getDowntown Program. The getDowntown Program will ensure in a timely way that maintenance issues are addressed.
What Happens If I Break a Bike Locker Rule?
If you violate any of the terms of the rental agreement, including and not limited to using the bike locker for storage purposes, the getDowntown Program will terminate your rental agreement. You will be notified of termination in writing and will have 10 business days to remove your possessions from the locker and return your key.
What Is the Bike Locker Renewal Process?
In March, the getDowntown Program will contact all renters to see if they would like to renew their rental agreement for another year. Renters wishing to renew will have until 10 business days before March 31st to return their signed renewal form with payment to update the terms of the original agreement and keep their lockers for another year. If the getDowntown Program does not receive (1) the signed renewal form and (2) payment for another year of $60, the rental agreement will be terminated and they will have to return their key.
If You Are a Renter
The getDowntown Program will hold your signed rental agreement until the agreement is terminated. To request a copy of your agreement, please contact us.
- Bike Lockers are for commuting purposes only. Our program policy states that “The bicycle lockers provided by the program are for commuting purposes only, not for bicycle storage. In order to rent a bicycle locker from the getDowntown program, you must be employed in the downtown Ann Arbor area.” If you use your locker for bicycle storage, your rental agreement is considered terminated.
- It is your responsibility to report any maintenance problems. The getDowntown Program cannot fix a malfunctioning locker if it does not know about it.
- It is also your responsibility to keep your locker clean. The getDowntown Program offers renters complimentary spring and fall cleanings, and renters can elect to have the getDowntown Program to sweep out and clean a locker during these routine cleaning periods.
- Report any insect infestations, particularly wasps, to the getDowntown Program.
- In the winter, a lock lubricant will help the lock to move more easily.
- Remember that the getDowntown Program will inspect lockers periodically to check for rental agreement violations. If you are found to be violating your agreement, your lease will be terminated.
- Bike Renewal is Your Responsibility! The getDowntown Program will contact you in March to renew your bike locker. If you wish to renew, you must do so prior to 10 business days before March 31. If you do not renew by 10 business days before March 31, your rental agreement will be terminated, and you must return your key.
