DOWNED TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES AFFECTING STREET PLOWING;
WEDNESDAY–THURSDAY RECYCLING ROUTES TO BE COLLECTED ON THURSDAY
City of Ann Arbor street maintenance crews are keeping the major streets clear since the arrival of heavy, wet snow on Tuesday and overnight. Currently, six plows continue to treat primary roads and 21 additional vehicles and staff are now dedicated to snow removal for the residential areas. Plowing along specific streets may be delayed until DTE is able to address downed power lines. The public may track the progress of the snow plows online via www.a2gov.org/snow.
As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, plows are working in snow routes 7, 8, 9, and 22 as identified in this online map: http://www.a2gov.org/government/publicservices/fieldoperations/Pages/StreetSnowPlowingStatus.aspx
Forestry crews were brought in overnight to address the volume of tree-related issues. Ten trees came down overnight and have been removed as of 7 a.m. Forestry crews continue to work on the reported downed tree limbs with priority given to those obstructing traffic and plowing operations. Outside contractors have been deployed to assist with the city’s immediate tree-related issues. Neighborhoods with old mature trees appear to be hardest hit, especially in the Burns Park and Arbor Hills area, but downed limbs are being reported across the city.
To report downed street trees and limbs, the public is encouraged to use the online Citizen Response Request System form, posted on the city’s front Web page, and specifically at: http://www2.a2gov.org/A2CSR/CSRRequest.aspx.
Downed power lines and service disruption overnight resulted in numerous traffic signals going to flash or without power. Generators are in place at seven locations and all signals are operational as of 9 a.m.Wednesday.
Due to icy road conditions, residential recycling collections on Wednesday will not occur and the Wednesday routes will be combined with the Thursday collection stops, according to city’s residential recycling collector Recycle Ann Arbor (www.recycleannarbor.org). There will be no disruption of residential and commercial trash pickups, unless there are specific obstructions where the roads are impassible due to downed tree limbs, electrical wires, or icy conditions.
